I think it's interesting that medicine is always updating its technologies related to health services and other biomedical tech, but that electronic health records still have not been put into place on a large-scale. Although the up-front costs will be sizable, I believe that having electronic records is necessary for the same reasons listed by my peers below and that it will inevitably (and hopefully soon) be put into place. However, I do believe that health information technology has come a long way in terms of the actual medical information that you can receive online. This does has a big backfire potential with people trying to self-diagnose, but in terms of health education I think has great capability to expand health knowledge in the general population.
